Screen and stage star Simon Callow heads to Birmingham next month for an evening of fairytales.
The actor, director and author will be at Symphony Hall on Saturday, April 2, as narrator during Symphonic Fairytales, starting at 7pm.
The concert includes the world premiere of Per Norgard's The Will O' the Wisps are in Town and Grieg's well loved Incidental Music to Peer Gynt.
The concert is part of the worldwide Symphonic Fairytales project to celebrate the 200th birthday this year of Hans Christian Andersen through the commission of ten new orchestral works based on some of his stories.
New works by Danish composers are to be premiered around the world on or around Andersen's birthday on April 2.
The CBSO has been selected to represent Britain in this international celebration and Simon Callow will be narrating Norgard's sinister but compelling new piece.
There will be more fun at Symphony Hall the following day when the CBSO stages a family concert called Fairy Tales and Fantasy, starting at 3pm. Youngsters are being invited to dress up as their favourite storybook characters and there will be events in the foyer.
