AFTER the national hype of the Oxford and Cambridge University boat race, one Solihull student is gearing up for another top rowing event.
Tim Oswin, a student at the University of Salford, will lock oars with Manchester University at the Two Cities Boat Race on May 6.
Alongside fellow rowers the aeronautical engineering student plans to give Oxbridge a run for their money when they go head to head along the Manchester Ship Canal.
The 35th annual Boat Race will see crews from both institutions battle it out over seven races at Salford Quays,
In 2005, more than 3,000 people lined the banks of Salford Quays, despite the adverse weather, to watch the spectacles of both the rowing and the dragon boat racing.
And this year's event organisers are encour-aging the general public to come along to support the event.
Salford University press and PR manager, Rachel Conway, said: "We are urging people to show their support for Tim and these two universities from two great cities. We have a fantastic day planned with additional entertainment and refreshments lining the banks of the racecourse.
"I'm sure spectators will really enter into the spirit of things."
