PREMIER Division survival is all but over for underfire neighbours Tanworth-in-Arden and Henley-in-Arden as the pair suffered away defeats last week. Basement boys Tanworth still have a slender chance of avoiding the drop but will have to beat Earlswood tomorrow if they are to have any chance of staying in the division. Last week Stratford Bards dismissed the lowly Arden outfit for just 54 and then cruised to a 10-wicket success. Winless Henley-in-Arden look certain to be playing Division One cricket next season following their latest defeat. The strugglers bowled Overbury out for 175 but their response suffered as they were dismissed short of their target, for just 126. Henley will be relegated if they lose at home to Shipston-on-Stour. Earlswood were narrowly beaten at Wellesbourne by six runs but picked up nine vital points to almost guarantee their safety. In the First Division Catherine-de-Barnes take on Ashton-under-Hill knowing that only a win will do if they are to mount a title challenge. Last week, a 14-run home victory over Broadway finally ended Catney's torrid run of five consecutive defeats. The hosts opened the batting, and recorded a respectable 204-7 with James Mason (68) and Gareth Bryant (44) leading the way. In reply, Broadway ran out of time and ended on 190-9 - a defeat that leaves them nervously looking over their shoulders in their relegation battle. Second Division title contenders Rowington take on strugglers Long Itchington fresh from beating Winchcombe by seven wickets after a solid innings of 162-3 last week. Leaders Warwick are eight points ahead of the Rs and the top-of-the-table clash in the penultimate game of the season will go a long way to deciding the champions. In the Fourth Division, Dorridge & Hockley Heath defeated league leaders Bretforton II for the first time this season. The third placed side continued their impressive form by dismissing the table toppers for 150. A three-wicket win was completed when they reached 156-7 but they still trail league leaders Bearley by 30 points with four games remaining. Tomorrow they travel to mid-table Norton Lindsey II. |
