Platt has sights on late run for title

WITH just eight Premier League games remaining Knowle & Dorridge are perfectly poised to mount a serious title challenge.

After an inconsistent start to the season K&D's hopes of going one better from last years runners-up spot looked bleak.

However, Spencer Platt's men have won three out of the last four games, and currently sit in third place just 38 points behind leaders Barnt Green.

The visitors had to settle for 143-8 as Greg Ricketts took 5-69 in a productive spell for Himley.

However, all-rounder Travis Friend helped K&D clinch victory, taking 4-21 as Walmley slid to defeat.

Moseley were also celebrating after a six-wicket victory at home to Kidderminster Victoria.

It was only their second outright win of the season but it went a long way to distancing them from the relegation zone.

Due to a late start the match was reduced to 31 overs each side and the visitors hit 134-7 .

Match winner Ian Westwood smashed 61 as he returned from a six-week spell on the sidelines to guide Moseley to success.

Dorridge moved out of the relegation zone despite only picking up a winning draw at home to Stratford-upon-Avon.

Stuart Eustace (71) and Elliot Seal (51) led the hosts to 233-8 with David Lamb (4-70) the pick of the bowlers for Stratford.

In reply Brian May smashed 106 as the visitors battled to 225-9 and survived some attacking bowling from Dorridge.

In the Second Division an outstanding batting performance from deadly duo Dominic Ostler (100) and Freddie Klokker (87 not out) gave Berkswell an away win that looked highly unlikely after Old Elizabethans had recorded 246-6.

More than five overs were remaining as Berkswell completed a five-wicket success that ensured they remained just one point behind second-placed Penn.

The closest fought game of the day took place at Cricket Meadow as Bridgnorth held Olton & WW to a draw.

The hosts scrambled to 166-8 as Babar Khan and James Neale took two wickets apiece.

In reply Marc Webb helped kick-start an Olton revival with a composed 49.

From the last ball Olton needed two runs to win but could only find one so the points were shared as they recorded 166-9.
