Paddy powers to new world record total

FITNESS legend Paddy Doyle made a mockery of another four Guinness World Records last week.

Despite nursing a severely cut hand and suffering from a chest infection, the Balsall Common iron-man completed his quest but admitted that it was a 'complete gamble'.

His 167 achievements have made the 43-year-old a local hero and although he says he will be 'taking a break' he also insists that he will definitely come back stronger.

The venue for the latest mission was his gym, Staminas in Erdington and his first record was completed on Tuesday morning when he completed the most step ups on a 15" height bench in one hour whilst carrying a 40lbs backpack. The former army unit worker completed 1619 repetitions to smash the previous record of 1511 held by Rob Simpson from Leeds.

Paddy then clocked up another two records in quick succession. The first was 663 back of hand pushups completed in one hour carrying a 40lbs backpack, followed by 901, 30-foot shuttle sprints in one hour, also another record.

Next up was the gruelling World Endurance Strength event which the martial-arts coach described as his 'most pleasing record' of the day.

In six hours and 55 minutes the prolific record-breaker completed 833 step-ups wearing a 40lbs backpack, rowed indoors for 82.84 miles, cycled indoors for 133.56 kilometres, completed 130 back of hand push-ups with a 40lbs backpack and finally finished with 220, 30-foot shuttle sprints again wearing the weighted backpack.

"I am happy to have beaten the odds again but once again my strict diet and hard training has paid off," said Paddy.

"For the last five months I have been eating vegetarian food which has certainly helped me progress."
