The Rotunda Quatrains

By Giovanni Esposito (Spoz)

Rotunda - carbuncle or architectural icon?
Is it like a bike rack without a single bike on?
A platter of oysters? Though you can't say you'd like one.
Blunder? Eighth wonder? The Brummie Rotunda

Like a gigantic 'Smartie' tube stuck on its end,
This robust Rotunda will drive you round the bend,
Oblivious to bombs the IRA used to send,
Blunder? Eighth wonder? The Brummie Rotunda

Profound or profane this cylindrical frame?
A product of genius from a brilliant young brain?
Or is it the drug engulfed sixties that are really to blame?
Blunder? Eighth wonder? The Brummie Rotunda

Derided at first, now a place in our hearts,
The point at which Birmingham both ends and starts
A defiant two fingers at the old arty farts
Blunder? Eighth wonder? The Brummie Rotunda

From bottom to top, every inch is a gem
Our own Eiffel Tower, it's our crème de la crème,
I bet every Londoner says, "Wish we 'ad one of them!"
Blunder? Eighth wonder? The Brummie Rotunda
