Elvis

By John Williams

He was a sofa, overstuffed, ketchup dribbled down the arms
He was dark clouds, lightning flashes and occasional psalms
He was a vivid pink caddy, bull bars and a big horn
Fifties slick, overblown, over here a sweating racehorse in uniform
Hail Memphis full of Gracelands - our Lord
A bible bound in gaudy glitz
A crimson Amerilis from a south facing garden
He was a porch with fly blown screen, early closing
