A Corner of Tokyo

By Richard Shaw, Solihull

Senso-ji Temple pounds with pilgrims and tourists
The sounds of coins and clapping are ever-present
In a corner of the courtyard stands a shrine of Shinto
Where the chimes of Buddha seem so very distant

There's a stillness that surrounds the Torii-gate
A calmness from all people being absent
Tranquillity descends both without and within
Now the chimes of Buddha seem so very distant

Still
Calm
Tranquil
Distant
