Living Poetry Club - Challenge 2

By Julie Boden

Beyond the Bullring is the title poem of my first collection. Each of the stanzas explore the lives of people who live in the Sutton Coldfield area.

Beyond the Bullring

She loves him in the Sutton Coldfield way,
between the avocados and the tricksy creme bruleƩ.
Her love is organised in such a certain Sutton way,
she loves him in the Sutton Coldfield way.

His love is of the Little Aston kind,
a Roman Road; a journey with a settlement to find,
an Aston Martin he adores but has to leave behind.
His love is of the Little Aston kind.

Their love's a frozen Four Oaks strange facade;
kippers, curtains, games of bridge (a bluff with every card),
where keeping up appearances is hard.
Their love's a frozen Four Oaks strange facade.

Her diary leaves so very little space
(to pen him in). There is no place
for him in her mad chase
to find herself. Her diary leaves him very little space.

Julie Boden

The poem is made up of four, four-line stanzas. Each of these quatrains has one rhyme ending  eg: way, brulee/kind find behind. The stanzas  open and end with the same or a very similar line. Your challenge this month is to send us a poem adhering to these rules that is inspired by one of the subjects below:

* The Bullring Shopping Centre
* The Open Air Museum of Steel Sculpture (Ironbridge)
* A City Sculpture
