CHELMSLEY Wood's new BNP councillor failed to turn-up for his first official council engagement this week because he got the dates mixed up.
Councillor George Morgan was supposed to make an appearance at Solihull Council's Mayor-making ceremony and AGM at the Civic Suite on Tuesday night but did not show.
A red-faced Coun Morgan told The Solihull News that he thought the meeting was on Wednesday night.
"I felt a bit of a fool because I should have been on top of that," said the Yorkminster Drive resident.
"The council have sent me so much stuff and I've been reading through all of that but I thought it was on Wednesday, I had even booked half a day off work for it. I make mistakes like everyone else and I hold my hands up to it "
Tuesday's meeting saw Councillor John Reeve (Lib Dem, Shirley East) take over the role of Solihull's Mayor from Councillor Alan Martin (Con, Bickenhill).
Coun Reeve highlighted sports as one of his key interests and said that he was looking forward to meeting Silhillians.
"I'd like to add how honoured and humbled I am to be given the opportunity to serve
Solihull. I'm looking forward to meeting those members of the community that restore faith in humanity," he said. "I want to help and am keen so please use me."
His wife, Councillor Susan Reeve (Lib Dem, Shirley West), has taken up the role of Mayoress but due to ill-health, Councillor Irene Chamberlain (Lib Dem, Lyndon) will act as the Mayor's consort during busy periods.
