SOLIHULL Council's cabinet agreed on Monday to develop and submit a plan for a regional casino to be sited in the borough.
The proposal will be submitted to the Government's Casino Advisory Panel, which will advise ministers on the quality of proposals and best locations put forward.
The cabinet agreed that a casino would have significant economic and regeneration advantages, bringing employment, tourism and leisure opportunities.
It said a Solihull casino should: Secure the maximum benefits for the local, city region and West Midlands local economy n Contribute to enhancing the national and international profile of the area. Be well served by national and international transport connections and local transport links. Be in an area attractive to and capable of accommodating national and international visitors. Be based outside a residential area. Should complement local economic development and community strategies and should be consistent with planning policy
Councillor Ian Hillas, deputy council leader, said: "This is not just about developing a gambling opportunity, more a leisure destination. This is a major opportunity for our region, which would bring regeneration, employment and business.
