THERE'S tension in the air over the August bank holiday weekend at Kenilworth Castle - and English Heritage has teamed up with www.icsolihull.co.uk to offer ten readers and their families a chance to get close to Wars of The Roses!
On Sunday August 24 and Bank Holiday Monday August 25, the castle's grounds will be populated with over 100 historic re-enactors, housed in a living history village of over 50 authentic tents, depicting an army on the move.
As well as watching the dramatic scenes of a turbulent period in English history, visitors can see first-hand how the soldiers of the era would have lived whilst out on manoeuvres.
The encampment will highlight how the soldiers, sometimes accompanied by families who would provide support services, would have lived, and visitors can see, smell and hear many different aspects of 15th century military life, from the clothes they wore to the food they ate - and even try on some of the armour that would save their lives!
The highlight of each day will be a morning skirmish and a battle each afternoon, as the opposing forces face each other in mortal combat!
The event runs each day from 11am to 5pm, with the castle itself open from 10am to 6pm.
Admission prices are £8 for adults, £5.30 for concessions and £3.50 for children, with a family ticket (two adults and up to three children) available for £19.50.
