SOLIHULL'S children have just cause to celebrate this week with their SATS results ranking among the best in the country.
The leader of the Council, Ken Meeson, praised the youngsters' efforts and said the grades had "put Solihull on the map".
According to provisional results a substantial number of the borough's pupils manage to achieve at least a Level 4 in English, Maths and Science.
Level 4 is regarded as the expected level of achievement for children aged ten and 11. It was in Science that the youngsters performed best - 93 per cent managed to get a Level 4 or higher.
In both English and Maths, the number of children who achieved at least Level 4 has risen, going from 86 to 87 per cent in the former and 82 to 85 per cent in the latter. When English and Maths results are combined then Solihull finishes fourth in the national league tables.
The number of borough pupils who received Level 5 - the higher level of achievement - was also impressive: 35 per cent in English, 39 per cent in Maths and 53 per cent in Science.
Councillor Meeson, also the cabinet member for education, children and young people, said: "These are fantastic results that really reflect the hard work of our children and teachers.
"They have once again put Solihull on the map, and I would like to offer my congratulations to each and every one.
"It is clear that Solihull is one of the best education authorities in the country, with some of the best schools."
SATS tests are taken in primary schools nationwide. This latest set of results are for the Key Stage 2 tests - which children taken in Year 6 (their final year at junior school). ..SUPL:
