MAJOR plans to build a £90 million leisure complex and casino at the NEC took a step forward after a business partner was chosen for the NEC Group's bid last week.
Genting Stanley, which operates casinos across the country in Brighton, Manchester, Leeds and Glasgow, was selected following a rigorous year -long tender process.
The scheme would feature a spa, hotel, restaurants and a number of high quality bars within the proposed building.
Paul Thandi, chief executive, the NEC Group, said: "I look forward to working with the Genting Stanley team to demonstrate to Solihull Council that our proposal represents the strongest, most exciting and most appropriate opportunity for the local area in order that we can realise our strategy of providing a world class 'work, rest and play' environment at the NEC."
Birmingham City Council has given its wholehearted backing to the project and Solihull Council will consider bids for the casino scheme after being granted a licence by the Government.
Management from the NEC Group will be holding a series of meetings with Solihull Council staff this week to discuss licensing and legislative issues relating to its bid. ..SUPL:
