AN ANIMAL rescue centre in Solihull is giving its visitors a special treat this bank holiday weekend.
A couple of rescued youngsters in the shape of Olivia the baby tawny owl and Rusty the fox cub were given to the centre after kind-hearted members of the public handed them in to save them from certain death.
The baby tawny owl Olivia was being set upon by crows before being rescued, while Rusty looked like he was about to be devoured by magpies.
The manager of Heronfield on the Warwick Road, Mitch Withey, said: "An elderly couple from St Helen's Road brought Rusty in and he was only as long as an index finger.
“They certainly saved him from the magpies who had pecked one of his toes off.
"Fortunately he has recovered and seems to be none the worse for his ordeal. He is now four inches long. For the first three weeks I had to get up every two hours and feed him with a bottle."
Olivia was found being attacked by crows at nearby Wroxall Abbey by a couple of hotel receptionists who work there.
"She came in with a damaged beak and some eye damage but she is okay now," added Mitch.
The centre is currently looking for homes for rabbits and ferrets that are in care there. It is particularly keen to re-home a cream coloured ferret that was found in the vicinity of Hanbury Road, Dorridge
The centre is located on Warwick Road by the Heron's Nest pub between Knowle and Chadwick End.
Admission during holiday periods is £2 for adults and £1 for children and OAPs.
