NIMBLE-footed walkers will be tested to their limits when they walk over fire and glass to raise thousands for charity.
Chadwick End mum Angela Cloke has organised tomorrow's (May 19) event which will see 50 participants 'hot foot' it across hot coals, while 12 will brave shards of glass in support of the Meningitis Trust.
Angela's son, Samuel, now aged seven, contracted Meningococcal Septicemia six years ago. He was given a life-saving penicillin injection, was in hospital for 10 days and took nine months to recover.
In 2005 she and husband Jon, both aged 40, faced the fire walking challenge and will this year join the team of broken glass walkers.
"It's one of those things it either captures your imagination or people just say why on earth would you want to do that," said Angela, a PA with a property company.
Asked about whether the challenges are mind over matter she said: "I don't think so, to me if a coal is fantastically hot it doesn't matter what your mind tells you, it is going to burn."
Samuel a pupil at Warwick Boys School, has since made a full recovery and also does his bit to spread awareness.
"He is quite keen to get out there and tell people "I nearly died of this"," added Angela.
The event takes place at Silhillians Sports Club, Warwick Road, Knowle. Spectators are welcome from 6.30pm with the walks starting at 7.30pm and 8.30pm respectively. There will also be a fire breather/juggler, sword swallower, fire engine, raffle, children's attractions and refreshments. Entry is free and the evening ends in a disco till late.
