A GROUP of young people who admitted carrying out acts of graffiti across the borough, have spent four hours of their Christmas break clearing three vanloads of litter from an anti-social behaviour hotspot.
Investigations into graffiti tags by Solihull Council's Environmental Health Officers and West Midlands Police led to the identification of two groups of young people from Solihull and Birmingham.
After admitting their involvement in carrying out the graffiti, the young people were either issued with a £75 fixed penalty notice or a Final Warning and they also agreed to attend a community clean-up as part of their punishment.
They spent four hours on December 29 clearing privately owned land at Oxhill Road in Solihull Lodge. The Council has received a number of complaints about the state of the area, which had become a hotspot for anti-social behaviour.
Three van loads of litter and waste were cleared from the site.
Cabinet Member for safer and stronger communities, Councillor David Bell said: "We all deserve to live in an area that is free from graffiti and anti-social behaviour. We hope that this provides a valuable lesson to these young people that we will not tolerate graffiti in our borough and we are pleased that we were able to offer them the opportunity to make a positive contribution to the community."
