Festival sets sights high

Solihull Times

THE wheels are in motion to make sure that this year's Solihull Festival is the biggest yet.

Next month around 40 events will be taking place at venues in both the north and south of the borough.

This year's slogan is "Come and join the fun" and organisers are working doubly hard to make sure that the programme offers something for everyone.

For those sporty locals there will be a chance to stroll, jog or run around a three mile course. Cyclists, meanwhile, will be taking part in a sponsored bike ride through the lanes.

There will also be plenty of arts events - dance shows, music evenings, poetry events and organ recitals are all included in the line-up.

Solihull Arts Complex will be holding shows throughout the week's events and will be welcoming a number of famous faces. Local comic Don Maclean,

TV's Martin Bell and the hilarious Barry Cryer will all be making an appearance.

Peter Lloyd, chairman of Solihull Festival, said: "We hope to again beat last year's success when we made available over £30,000 for local good causes -all made possible by our volunteers and supporters."

The eight-day festival is organised by Rotary Clubs from around the borough, Inner Wheel and the Soroptimists.

This year's festival will run from September 20-28. Tickets for the events are on sale now -telephone 0121 704 6962 - and brochures are available from Solihull Arts Complex and local libraries.
