BIRMINGHAM International Airport recieved 800 complaints about noise last year - 221 of them from just two people.
The figure was revealed as the airport published its Community and Environment report, showing it achieved its air quality target for all pollutants except ozone.
Although the report was welcomed by action groups, it has led to renewed attacks on the proposals for a second runway in the airport's Draft Master Plan.
Birmingham Airport anti-Noise Group (BANG) secretary, James Botham, said: "While it would be churlish to deny that BIA has made some real progress we must point out that last October's Draft Master Plan forecasts environmental deterioration across the board in the next quarter of a century if the airport company goes ahead with the second runway."
The report also reveals that over the past year more than 300 homes near the airport had benefited from noise reduction measures, with almost 70 receiving new roofs.
Speaking at the launch of the report last Friday Ben Hanley who oversees BIA's noise monitoring system said: "Any aircraft that exceed the noise levels set will be fined and that money put into the airport's Comminity Trust Fund - a registered charity that supports community projects in Birmingham and Solihull."
