A little ‘me’ time

Health and Beauty Hoar Cross Spa Manager, Linda Flint, answers readers' questions...

Any tips for a busy mother of three who’s craving a little down time between shuttling teenagers around, running a household and taking our greyhound puppy Rufus for five mile walks? C Walker

You must be on the go all the time! Like many mums, I for one am supposed to be the oracle of knowledge in our household; I’m supposed to know where my children have put their trainers, where my husband put down that important piece of paper and when everyone will be in for supper.

So many mums visiting our spa make similar comments that they don’t have time for themselves and I maintain that mums don’t relax properly at home. We always find something to do or think we should be doing.

A Residential Spa stay on your own, with hubby or one of the grown-up children has wonderful benefits. No meals to prepare or washing up to do, just time to relax properly, talk to your companions and be made to feel special. Leave Rufus in the capable hands of another family member and take time out; when you return home, they might even appreciate just how much you do!

One of my special treatment favourites is the Elemis Absolute Spa Ritual. Great for those who want to treat both face and body in one go and an experience that won’t be forgotten, this treatment combines a Well Being Body Massage with a Japanese Silk Booster Facial – two hours of pure, unadulterated pampering with a unique massage using warm oil! The senses are hit by fragrant and delicious aromas, whilst your therapist will pamper you from the tips of your toes to the top of your head!

At home it is important not to be taken for granted, to steal a little ‘me’ time to read and to treat yourself to long relaxing baths. Keep a good book or magazine in the car, for when you have to wait for the children and buy a good bath product such as Elemis Pure Retreat Bath Soak or Skin Nourishing Milk Bath. Milk Bath, which can also be used as a body moisturiser, is for anyone from granny’s age to pregnant mums and also babies. It’s brilliant to have in as a family product for all generations.

If you can’t find time to relax in the bath without thinking of the jobs you have to do, then give those tired Rufus-worn feet a massage, using your thumbs to ease out the tension spots. Remember, mums are special!
