Layer away

With those heady days and heavenly summer nights fast approaching it's the time to dare to bare.

Trendy hair style

For some, the mere thought is enough to have us running for the comfort of our winter woolies. Fear not, armed with the plethora of floaty fabrics that have recently hit the shops you can still achieve the hot look, without feeling left in the cold.

For those reticent to expose every inch of flesh, look to one of the main trends this season and layer to your heart's content. A wisp of chiffon overlapping a snip of lace can give an unmeasured amount of confidence whilst leaving a pretty and playful impression.

As we all know, layering is also a method that can be used to harness and enhance the hair. From cut to colour, it's a clever technique employed by stylists to achieve the latest looks.

Jason Cocking, senior stylist at the Umberto Giannini salon in Brindleyplace and Maxine Morgan, manager of the Umberto Giannini salon in Tettenhall tell us how they fashioned this layered creation.

"We wanted to move away from the 'dirty' blonde look that has been so popular lately," said Maxine, "and go for a more creamy, white, summer colour with layers of pastel blonde shades. The white blonde is the base colour with layers of pale salmon and mink throughout."

"This is a typical layered cut that looks unique due to the nature of the styling," said Jason. "It has a heavy fringe but the layers within it make it softer and the way the hair has been prepared gives it a textured effect."

"When the hair is still wet apply a serum into the lower sections of the hair and twist into individual segments. Meanwhile roughly dry the top section and run the straightening irons over the fringe. Un-twist the lower section of hair and diffuse the hair dry. Tease the curls and apply a touch of serum to the ends."
