Rental perks that don't break the bank

If buying a property is not on your agenda at the moment, take a look at our monthly guide to renting city accommodation, bought to you in conjunction with the residential lettings team at Bruton Knowles.

This month we take a look at... city apartments with extras. So whether it's gyms and saunas, car parking, business facilities, or hotel room-service you are after, take a look at our check list and see what extra facilities and lifestyle changes your monthly rent can buy you:

Car parking, for under £600 per month
If your motor has to live with you, it may not be as expensive as you think. A number of one-bedroomed furnished apartments, such as Broadway Plaza at Five Ways in Edgbaston also offer a parking space for one car as part of the monthly £595 rent. The Broadway Plaza residential scheme has been built by CALA Homes on a former site of the Children's Hospital at Five Ways. The residential units are also set amidst over 227,000 sq ft of leisure and retail space.

Rent and get fit, for as little as £650 a month
If fitness is a priority for you, many city centre schemes offer free use of gym and leisure facilities. Kings Oak's Centenary Plaza on Holliday Street offers a residents'-only gymnasium as part of the rental package - which can be as little as £650 per month.
The Art Deco style Britannic Park development, half a mile from Moseley Village, offers a heated indoor swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi and large communal gardens. If you have any time left over to watch cricket, it is also a short walk from Edgebaston cricket ground.

Live and work units... for £750-£1,000 per month
For city dwellers working from home, or for those looking to reduce their commuting time, CALA Homes' Qube apartments in the fashionable Jewellery Quarter enable tenants to successfully combine a city centre apartment with a ground floor office or retail working space with walk-in access. Ranging from £750 to £1,000 per month, a selection of one, two or three bed apartments are available to rent fully furnished and also offer secure parking.

Business suite for residents... from £600 per month
For those who conduct business at a fast pace, Kings Oak's Centenary Plaza apartments offer a highly organised working environment. It offers conference facilities, meeting, dining and work rooms, complete with kitchen facilities and furnishings. The main foyer areas are also designed with hotel-inspired extras like the long concierge desk and mail room. Other attractions include the video-phone entry system, secure parking and CCTV monitoring.

Hotel room service - straight to your apartment...
With planning approved for Birmingham's tallest building, the new Beetham Tower - which is going to house a five star hotel and apartments, tenants will soon be able to order room service from the hotel direct to their apartment. It's too early to give rent levels for this perk, but watch this space...
